There is a big difference between 19 and 200
Say that between Christian Horner And Toto Wolff there isn’t a good relationship is an understatement, but it’s truly singular how this two never misses an opportunity to tease their rival. Toto Wolff together with Zak Brown highlighted in relation to Adrian Newey’s farewell to Red Bull that several resumes of Red Bull members who are considering leaving Milton Keynes are circulating in the paddock.
Christian Horner did not let these insinuations ‘run’ by inviting Toto Wolff to reflect on the fact that Red Bull recently took 220 engineers away from Mercedes. Wolff’s response arrived in Imola inviting everyone to take mathematics lessons: “Red Bull has hired 19 engineers from Mercedeswhich is a normal average level of personnel fluctuation from one team to the others”, said the Mercedes team principal.
“We need to make sure that those who are in Mercedes prefer to stay there rather than go elsewhere I wouldn’t change anything regarding the organization of the engine department“, added Wolff, proudly underlining that he can interact with a perfect organization in Brixworth where the power units of Mercedes, McLaren, Aston Martin and Williams are made. The Mercedes power unit returned to winning in F1 with McLaren in Miami and in 2026 there seems to be all the conditions for another ‘rocket’ start of the Mercedes engines as already happened in 2014. To achieve this, however, Mercedes will have to finding the right solution with regards to all the other aspects of a single-seater – chassis, aerodynamics, suspensions – which are preventing Lewis Hamilton and George Russell from being competitive at the top of the category.
