Novak Djokovic was once again adamant about his refusal to be vaccinated against Covid-19, even though he may miss the US Open at the end of August, as he did earlier this year at the Australian Open. American authorities maintain the obligation of vaccination against the coronavirus to enter the country.
Asked at the Wimbledon press conference if he maintains his stance of not getting vaccinated, Djokovic replied with a laconic “yes”.
“Are you going to insist on that decision?”, continued the journalist. “Yes,” replied the Serb again, for whom Wimbledon could be the last Grand Slam of the season.
“Today, given the situation, I am not allowed to enter the United States. It’s an extra motivation to play well here [em Wimbledon]”, added the Serbian, who is looking for his seventh Grand Slam title on grass.
“I would like to go to the United States, but at the moment it is not possible. I can’t do much. It really depends on the US government whether or not to allow an unvaccinated person to enter their territory,” she continued.
Not being vaccinated against Covid-19, Djokovic was deported from Australia in January before the start of the first Grand Slam of the season, where he aimed to reach his tenth title.
Also at Wimbledon no tennis player will score points, as the ATP has decided that the tournament will not count towards the ranking of its ranking after the exclusion of Russians and Belarusians due to the war in Ukraine.
Currently number 3 in the world, Djokovic has won the US Open three times (2011, 2015 and 2018) and has 20 Grand Slam titles in his career.
