Weather|On Saturday, the year’s lightning record was broken and the hottest temperature of the current year was measured. The heat will continue right next week.
Finland in the southern parts has been experienced on Saturday heavy rains and thunder.
However, Helsinki avoided the worst rain, says the meteorologist on duty at the Finnish Meteorological Institute Henry Nyman. Several were organized in Helsinki on Saturday public eventswhich were not affected by the weather in the end.
“The deaf are starting to be over for today,” Nyman said at half past eleven in the evening.
According to him, Saturday’s largest rain accumulations were measured in Salo in Varsinais-Suomen, 29.8 millimeters, and Lohja in Uusimaa, 28.3 millimeters. Also in Nuuksio National Park, for example, 20.9 milliliters of water came to the meter.
On Saturday according to Nyman, the current year’s lightning record was broken, when a total of 1,741 ground lightning strikes were measured in Finland.
On Saturday, the hottest temperature of the beginning summer was measured so far, when the meter in Salo showed 28.8 degrees in the afternoon.
According to Nyman, it was also particularly warm in Kemiönsaari (28.7 degrees) and Turku (28.6 degrees).
On Sunday the temperature will cool slightly across the country and instability is expected.
A rain warning has been issued for Varsinais-Suomi, Satakunta, Uudellemaa and Kanta-Hämee, and according to Nyman, rain and thunder showers will start to rise after noon. They should not be allowed in Helsinki again.
“I don’t think they will be able to hit Helsinki,” says Nyman.
One after a cooler day on Monday the temperature will start to rise again. According to Nyman, Hellelukemia is scheduled for the beginning of the week.
“It is very likely that the year’s heat record set today will be broken next week, maybe as early as Monday,” he says.
