The Vice President of the Egyptian African Council, Ambassador Salah Halima, said that the situation in Mali and some countries in the African Sahel region, resulting from military coups, weakened the armies, especially after the withdrawal of French forces and the support that these countries were receiving from the ECOWAS group and the African Union, which gave the groups an opportunity. Terrorism becomes more active.
Ambassador Halima stated in a statement to Al-Ittihad that the operations carried out by ISIS have made the security situation in Mali further deteriorate, and this applies to the three countries in which coups occurred and their membership in ECOWAS was frozen, and the support they were receiving from them stopped. France, the United States, Western countries, or the United Nations in the military field, the Malian army has become in a difficult situation in the face of the threats of terrorist groups.
For his part, Mounir Adeeb, a researcher in the affairs of extremist movements and international terrorism, said that terrorist organizations are very active in some African countries, most notably Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, and these organizations have become strong in these countries, as the coups have greatly affected efforts to combat terrorism.
Adeeb explained in a statement to Al-Ittihad that the army and government in Mali have become less capable of confronting terrorist organizations, and that the country has become a victim of terrorism, and dealing with this challenge has become difficult, calling for the presence of local and international roles and efforts to confront the threats of these organizations, stop their danger, and abort operations.
