The newly founded alliance is on course to govern in the Free State. However, even before the outcome of the election, the Saxon co-chairwoman rejected two parties.
Leipzig – The Sahra Alliance car driver (BSW) wants to participate in the upcoming municipal and… State elections in Saxony score points with a clear roadmap: cooperation with the Alternative for Germany (AfD) and the Greens are therefore categorically rejected by the newly founded federal party even before the election results.
“We are running to change something – and for that you have to govern,” said BSW state chairwoman Sabine Zimmermann Leipziger Volkszeitung (LVZ) on Monday (April 22). The party leader made it clear that the party would not be available as a “mere majority creator”. “If there are coalition talks, we will have very clear conditions to achieve noticeable improvements for people, for example in the health and education sectors,” said Zimmermann in the interview.
Clear roadmap: Social justice and economic strength as a party program
The Wagenknecht Party had already formed as a federal party in January of this year. The first regional association was founded in Saxony at the end of February. The Goals of the alliance are clear: “We want a different policy. We want economic reason, peace, social justice and freedom to finally be the most important cornerstones of politics in Germany again,” said BSW co-chair Amira Mohamed Ali shortly after the party was founded in Chemnitz.
This is currently not the case. The current federal government is massively endangering Germany as a business location. In addition, she is choking off criticism with morally charged debates – especially with regard to the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine. Instead, Germany needs a voice for peace and de-escalation.
Latest survey results from Election survey platform Dawum show that the newly founded party's chances of winning the election in the fall are not bad. The party most recently (as of April 3) had 11 percent. That means third place behind the AfD (31.3 percent) and the CDU (30.8 percent). “The surveys are encouraging. After European elections “In June we will know for the first time where we stand in Saxony,” Zimmermann commented on the values to the LVZ.
Only name bearer: Sahra Wagenknecht cannot compete in Saxony
The Saxon regional association In the future, it will be led by a dual leadership: the former left-wing Bundestag member Sabine Zimmermann and the entrepreneur Jörg Scheibe, reports the German Press Agency (dpa).
Sahra Wagenknecht has little to do with the regional association in Saxony. Even though she is the name bearer of the alliance, she cannot compete in Saxony. Reason: she doesn't live there. “The party is of course identified with her – but she is not just Sahra Wagenknecht. This is often forgotten just because Sahra is in the name,” says Zimmermann in the LVZ.
Election forecasts uncertain: BSW alliance remains a big unknown
Even if the polls are promising for the alliance under the former left-wing politician, experts remain skeptical. Because it is simply too early to make a forecast for the election in the fall. “Sentiments are not votes,” says Dresden political scientist Hans Vorländer about the situation in Saxony to the dpa. The new BSW alliance in particular is a big unknown. “Nobody can currently say exactly how many votes from which parties will go to the BSW,” says Vorländer (dpa/bg).
