SUV type a car and a van caught fire in the parking lot on Taostie in Vantaa early the night before Monday. When the rescue service arrived at the site, two brand new vehicles were on fire.
“The fire had started in the frontmost car in the row,” says the fire marshal on duty Jarmo Myllymäki.
The fire was spreading to the third vehicle, but the fire department was able to contain the fire.
Both cars on fire were brand new.
“There were plenty of cars in the parking lot at the time of the incident, so there would have been ingredients for a bigger one,” says Myllymäki.
So far, the rescue service has no information on what may have caused the fire. The police are investigating the causes of the fire.
The fire was reported by a truck driver who was resting nearby. Bangs had also been heard from the area, which were apparently caused by the tires of the vehicles breaking in the fire.
“The summer night was calm and the bangs were heard over a wide area, but there is nothing known to indicate that, for example, the youth caused them,” says Myllymäki.
The terrain near the parking area was also dry, but the fire was not able to spread to the terrain.
