The United Arab Emirates University launched the High-Performance Computing (HPC) initiative, which aims to support cutting-edge research in the fields and applications of artificial intelligence, data analysis, and computational modeling.
Dr. Fikri Kharbash, Acting Dean of the College of Information Technology at the UAE University, said that this initiative represents an important step towards enhancing research and technological capabilities. High-performance computing is considered an essential part of the university’s vision towards developing scientific research to meet the needs of the future.
He added that the initiative will give researchers and students the opportunity to cooperate with academic institutions and industrial companies around the world, which will contribute to achieving significant progress in various scientific and applied fields, raising the level of knowledge and achieving sustainable development.
For her part, Afra Al Shamsi, Executive Director of the Information Technology Sector, said that the initiative includes an advanced computer infrastructure consisting of a data center equipped with prefabricated containers containing 12,544 central processing units with a capacity of “1.1 PFLOPS” and 16 graphics processing units with a capacity of “155 TFLOPS,” in addition to… Storage capacity reaches 1 PB, pointing out that this infrastructure is characterized by its ability to expand to accommodate future requirements.
She added that the initiative allows taking advantage of advanced techniques for data analysis and modeling, which contributes to developing innovative solutions in multiple fields.
It is worth noting that high-performance computing infrastructure is used in many fields, including artificial intelligence research, climate analysis, predictive analytics, molecular dynamics, seismology research, oil exploration, information security, genomics research, space research, and quantum computing. .
