Two women have been injured with serious burns early this Tuesday in the fire of a substandard house located on a road that starts from Lemus street in the Madrid municipality of Aranjuez, reports a spokesman Emergencies Community of Madrid 112. After receiving a call at seven in the morning alerting them to the event, 112 has mobilized two fire crews from the Community of Madrid and health personnel from Summa. Sources close to the case explain that it was the women themselves who called and alerted that someone was threatening them. “They want to burn us,” they warned on the other end of the phone.
The scientific police have gone to the place of the fire to collect traces that indicate whether the flames were intentional or originated as a result of an accident. The local judicial police have taken over the investigation. Sources close to the investigation suggest that the victims were regular users of drugs. The area in which the substandard housing was located is a rural area on the outskirts of Aranjuez where several homeless people spend the night and where there are also buildings where farmers keep farm tools.
Upon arriving at the indicated place, the emergency services have begun work to extinguish the flames and have verified that there were two people with severe burns. Both victims were inside the building that everything indicates that they shared. The injuries are a 43-year-old woman who, after being stabilized by the Summa health teams, has been transferred by helicopter to the large-scale unit of the University Hospital of La Paz. The other affected is a 37-year-old woman who, after receiving medical assistance, has been transferred to the Getafe Hospital in a mobile ICU, also to the major burn unit. The spokesman has not been able to specify the dimensions of the burns, but since they are large burns, they affect at least 20% of her bodies. Both present, in addition, inhalation burns, the most serious.
This Monday, a homeless woman also died in a fire in the gap of the Pedro Bosch bridge, in the Arganzuela district of the capital, where she lived. In this case, the flames were caused by two men with whom the woman and her husband shared the small space that was difficult to access. The police arrested them a few hours later. According to the investigations, an argument broke out between them and the perpetrators left and returned after a while to set a fire. The man was able to escape, but the woman was caught in the fire and died. When the emergency services arrived, they could not do anything to save her life.
A spokeswoman for the Madrid City Council explains to this newspaper that the social services are aware that there are several homeless settlements in that area, especially made up of Romanian gypsies, who have offered help on several occasions, but who “refuse any Type of assistance”.
