Train service|Prime Minister Petteri Orpo told Turku Sanom how it is possible to organize the financing of the Länsirada, formerly known as the Train of the Hour.
Municipalities The 49 percent funding share of the Western Railway, formerly known as the Tunni train, will be reduced, says the Prime Minister Petteri Orpo (cook) To Turku Sanomat.
“I think it’s necessary and natural that the percentage of cities can’t be quite that big,” Orpo commented to the newspaper.
Orpo did not want to anticipate the amount of the municipalities’ financial contribution while the negotiations are in progress. He reminded that, in addition to the municipalities’ shares, EU support money is also currently being prepared for the Western Railway. In addition, there will be the state’s financial contribution to the project company and the own debt of the possible project company model.
“It will provide the entire funding”, Orpo commented to TS.
The largest owner of the project company is the Finnish state. In addition, the owners include Turku, Espoo, Helsinki, Salo, Lohja, Vihti and Kirkkonummi.
The municipalities have not absorbed the 49 percent funding share, because their investment capacity has weakened, especially with the social security reform.
The name of the train of the hour project was changed to Länsirada last December.
