Dubai Police warned of a violation that represents a great danger on the road, which is not leaving enough distance between the vehicles in front, and a common behavior by other drivers related to the first violation, which is not giving way to those coming from behind.
Drivers say that they adhere to the set speeds, but they are disturbed and exposed to stress because aggressive drivers insist on sticking to them from behind to force them to give way.
Director of the General Traffic Department, Major General Saif Muhair Al Mazrouei, confirms that failure to leave sufficient distance is one of the most serious violations monitored by the police, whether through individuals or through control techniques, as it leads to the occurrence of many accidents.
He explained that driving slowly, especially on fast lanes, reflects – on the other hand – a weakness in traffic culture among some drivers, and may raise some problems on the road, especially if it is less than the minimum road speed limit.
He added that even in this case, the reaction is not supposed to be aggressive by other drivers, especially in light of the presence of channels provided by the relevant agencies, such as the “We are all police” service provided by Dubai Police to receive complaints from members of the community and document them with photos or video.
He stressed that it is necessary to be aware of important aspects in this issue, most notably the necessity of giving way to someone coming from behind on the fast left lane, even if he is exceeding the speed limit, because he is ultimately responsible for his behavior, and there are “radar” control devices that monitor speeders, so obstinacy is not assumed. And not giving way to someone coming from behind under the pretext of adhering to the speed limit, because the driver in front is not aware of the circumstances of others. There may be an emergency situation that forces the person coming from behind to speed up, and in this case the police are still concerned with taking the necessary action against him.
He pointed out that the insistence of the front driver not to give way may be the cause of an accident, when the driver coming from behind is forced to overtake from the right at great speed, and finds another slow-moving vehicle in front of him and collides with it from behind.
