It seems that Meta Platforms, the company formerly known as Facebook, is gearing up for the launch of its text-based social platform called Threads on July 6th. In direct competition with Twitter, in fact it will be possible to consult and write short text messages with photos, videos and links, just like on Elon Musk’s social network. A website created by Meta Platforms features a countdown to the launch of Threads, along with a QR code that directs users to a preview of the service. According to details found on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, Threads appears to be linked to the Instagram app, much like Stories and Reel, allowing users to log in with the same account and migrate their contacts.
Threads shares some similarities with Twitter, allowing users to like, repost, and share content. The launch of Threads coincides with recent major changes made by Twitter, such as the imposition of a daily limit on the number of tweets users can view and the introduction of a paid wall for the TweetDeck application. Earlier this year, Chris Cox, the chief product officer of Meta Platforms, said the company aims to create a “rationally managed” conversation app, throwing a dig at Elon Musk, the problematic owner of Twitter.
