The famous phrase of the Murcian tennis player’s grandfather, ‘head, heart and balls’, has inspired this dessert whose name leaves no one indifferent
Carlos Alcaraz is on everyone’s lips after winning the US Open, his first Grand Slam, which has allowed him to become the youngest number 1 in history. Since last Sunday there have been many displays of affection that the Murcian has received. However, the tribute from a sweet shop in El Palmar, the tennis player’s hometown, may be one of the most peculiar that has been seen in a long time.
The Víctor confectionery, located on the Calle Mayor of the Murcian district, run by Víctor Manuel Moreno Alarcón, a pastry chef with more than 35 years of experience, has created a special dessert dedicated to the pupil of Juan Carlos Ferrer whose name leaves no one indifferent : ‘Carlos Alcaraz’s balls’. A sweet whose creator says that “it arises spontaneously, in the month of April or May, when Carlitos was starting out and was already pointing out ways” and that is inspired by the famous phrase of the tennis player’s grandfather, ‘head, heart and balls ‘, which Alcaraz has taken as his personal motto. A tribute that this establishment wanted to pay as thanks for his loyalty, since the athlete frequents the premises with his friends when he is in El Palmar.
This product is a saloon filled with chocolate or cream, at the customer’s choice, dipped in liquid chocolate and covered with shavings, also chocolate. A “simple” dessert that Moreno wanted to be for daily consumption. “We could have made a cake or a chocolate montage of a ball or a racket, but I wanted to make a confection that was something you can eat every day,” he explained.

The truth is that at first the name given to this sweet was ‘los cojones de El Palmar’, since, as Moreno confesses, he did not know “if it was going to feel bad, although everything is made from love” . However, the neighbors quickly related him to the tennis player and finally he has kept the name he currently has. A creation that he acknowledges “has a history” and that “he is proud” to have devised. In addition, the ‘rise’ of Alcaraz has meant that this dessert is enjoying “greater impact” and crosses the borders of the Murcian district.
According to the pastry chef, the protagonist of this sweet has not yet had the opportunity to taste it, since “it so happened that the last time he went to the premises he did not have any prepared and could not try them”. However, Moreno believes that the Murcian tennis player does know of its existence and hopes that on Alcaraz’s next visit “he can offer it to him so that he can try it and thus pay tribute to him.”
