Communications with Titan were lost two hours after it plunged towards the wreckage of the Titanic liner.
Shahzada Dawood and her son Suleman were photographed moments before descending. In the first image they are seen giving each other a brotherly hug as they prepared for the journey.

In the second image they looked smiling on the Polar Prince, the ship that took them to the area where the submarine would descend. They wore orange jackets, carried reflectors and red helmets.
On the boat they were accompanied by Christine Dawood, the billionaire’s wife, and Alina, another of his daughters.
Shahzada Dawood complained that he was not comfortable in the vests. “I’m quite fat. I’m already boiling,” he said, as his wife recalled in a chat with the newspaper The New York Times.

Suleman carried a Rubik’s cube and a camera with him so as not to lose detail of what he would see at a depth of more than three thousand meters. “He was like an excited little boy,” Mrs Dawood said.
His aunt, Azmeh Dawood, also the older sister of billionaire Shahzada Dawood, said that his nephew “felt terrified” by the expedition. However, he accepted his father’s dangerous proposal just to please him, on a date close to Father’s Day.
“I think of them (nephew and brother) struggling to breathe. She has been heartbreaking to be honest, ”the woman confessed to international media.
