Gazoo Racing has meddled with the Yaris Cross. That is why there is now the Yaris Cross GR Sport.
Toyota has profiled itself emphatically as a sporty brand in recent years. That also works quite well with cars like the new Supra, the GR 86, the GR Yaris and the GR Corolla. These are all seriously nice cars.
They are also all seriously expensive cars, but luckily you can also get a GR badge on your car as an ordinary man. Toyota now has the ‘GR Sport’ versions. We already knew the regular Yaris GR Sport, but Toyota is now also introducing a Yaris Cross GR Sport.
Basically it’s just a nicely decorated version of a non-sporty car. Just like R-line at Volkswagen, ST-line at Ford, RS-line at Renault and so on. Yet Toyota goes one step further than that.
The Japanese have had Gazoo Racing tighten up the suspension. As a result, a Yaris Cross GR Sport should drive a bit better than a normal Yaris Cross.
Furthermore, it is indeed a matter of a sporty outfit. So you get 18 inch rims, a diffuser and the necessary GR badges. The interior has been brightened up with some red stitching and gunmetal accents. And don’t forget: even more GR badges.
You can only get the GR Sport version if you go for the Hybrid, which doesn’t add any horsepower. You have to make do with 116 hp, so there is little sporty about it. You can drive very economically, that is.
