The V12 simply lives, because more and more seem to be added.
The V12 has been under a kind of moral guardianship for years. The engine type is almost exclusively good for excess. There is no logical reason to put a V12 in a car. You can also achieve enormous power with an inline-six or V8. But a V12 is not just about power, but also about prestige, refinement and… Laufkultur.
And the funny thing is, although the engine is in danger of extinction, a few are secretly being added. Go figure. Last night Ferrari pulled the curtain off the 12cilindri (really, who does the names at Ferrari???). Mercedes supplies a V12 in the S680 Maybach.
Gordon Murray has two supercars (the T33 and the T50) with a V12 (Murray hates turbos) and Aston Martin unveiled a new generation of twelve-cylinder engines this week. And how about Rolls-Royce, all models with combustion engines have twelve combustion chambers.
So the V12 is simply alive!
Now we have another twelve-cylinder for you! The car in question is called the Engler V12 and that is where we immediately make the first ‘mistake’. It’s not, strictly speaking, a car. From a distance that seems to be the case, because you see a body and four wheels. It’s basically a Quad, because you sit on it like a motorcycle. As our editor-in-chief @michaelras Now that he wasn’t on holiday, he would have written this article.
It’s not the first time that Engler comes onto the market with a product like this. They already launched a similar car in 2019, but with only a 5.2 liter V10 from the Audi R8 and Lamborghini Huracán. The founder of the store, Viktor Engler, simply thought the V12 was the best choice in terms of power, sound and swagger.
Performance
The performance of the Engler V12 must be bizarre. Because everything revolves around 1,200. The engine produces exactly 1,200 hp. The maximum torque is 1,200 Nm and three guesses what the weight is, indeed: 1,200 kg. This ensures performance that can be described as excellent: sprinting from 0-100 km/h is completed in 2.5 seconds and the top speed is more than 400 km/h.
It is not clear which V12 was used. Engler has developed its own transmission that weighs only 30 kg. Something tells us that they did not use the biturbo V12 from AMG, which will probably warp the gearbox in one go. We’re not betting on them building their own engine. That would be very expensive, as only 20 will be built. Of those 20, only 19 will go on sale, because Viktor Engler also wants one. Look, then you’re a good peer.
