She pointed out that the number of patients visiting the Foundation’s health centers during the past year amounted to 6,360 people with asthma from different age groups.
She pointed out that asthma is diagnosed through a careful review of the medical history, the onset of symptoms and their association with external influences, in addition to a clinical examination and hearing the sound of wheezing during an asthma attack, in addition to performing a respiratory function test to measure the efficiency of the lungs.
Regarding the foundations of asthma treatment, she explained that treatment initially depends on avoiding the influences that lead to asthma attacks, in addition to using bronchodilators and some types of cortisone to treat severe asthma cases, and continuing treatment to prevent severe asthma attacks and avoid hospitalization.
Al-Raisi explained that the best way to prevent asthma is to avoid mixing with patients suffering from colds and respiratory infections, and to take preventive vaccinations.
Types of asthma
Regarding the types of asthma, Al-Raisi stated that asthma occurs as a result of sensitivity to certain stimuli in the atmosphere or food, and includes non-allergic asthma that sometimes occurs as a result of nervous stress or sudden changes in the weather, occupational asthma as a result of exposure to stimuli in the field of work, and evening asthma that often appears during… Night-time asthma, adult asthma whose symptoms appear at an advanced age, exercise-induced asthma, and seasonal asthma that appears only at certain times of the year.
