Abu Dhabi (Etihad)
Today, the United Arab Emirates celebrates the 48th anniversary of the unification of the armed forces under one central command, one slogan and one flag, to be the nation’s safety valve, its defense, and the protection of the achievements and gains of the Union State.
The sixth of May of each year represents one of the immortal days in the nation’s memory. On this day in 1976, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may God rest his soul, and his brothers, Their Highnesses the Rulers of the Emirates, made their historic and fateful decision to unify the armed forces, to form the most important… The foundations of the Union State, and to be its impregnable fortress in the face of anyone who dares to threaten its security and stability.
The UAE Armed Forces, in all stages of their construction, received support and attention from our wise leadership, which was keen to provide all the capabilities of the armed forces, and provide them with the latest weapons and the latest advanced military technology, in support of their integrated combat efficiency, to become at the forefront of modern armies, with the qualitative advances they achieved. successive.
The human element has been the focus of the process of modernization and development in the capabilities of the armed forces, whether at the scientific or training level, as the UAE has established military institutes, schools and colleges that train and qualify young people in a military way that suits the requirements of the times and the latest developments in the situation, in addition to signing agreements with prestigious civilian universities to support… The human element. The decision to unify the armed forces on May 6, 1976, about five years after the founding of the United Arab Emirates, will remain one of the most important developments in the Union’s victorious march, and it is an embodiment of “the insightful vision of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his brothers, the founding leaders.” The rulers of the Emirates, may God bless them, and their confident determination to move forward in completing the pillars of the union and strengthening its path, out of conscious anticipation on their part, that there is no strength, no invincibility, and no development without a strong unified army, well trained and armed, highly efficient and prepared.
The tasks assigned to our armed forces confirm that they were a force to deter aggressors, maintain stability, and support afflicted peoples, whether in countries torn by internal divisions and conflicts, or those exposed to aggression from external parties. This is clearly evident in tasks such as participating in the Arab Deterrence Forces in Lebanon in 1976, removing mines left behind by the civil war there, relief efforts in the Kosovo region, and peacekeeping in Somalia.
The role of the armed forces also emerged in two pivotal events in the history of the region and the world, namely its participation in the war to liberate Kuwait following the Iraqi invasion in 1990, and the decisive response since 2015 to the terrorist Houthi militia’s invasion of Yemen, through Operation Decisive Storm in 2015. Our armed forces succeeded, With its brothers from the Arab coalition countries, in thwarting the plan to turn Yemen into a hotbed for exporting violence and terrorism and destabilizing the region.
The anniversary of the unification of our armed forces comes upon us in the homeland of stability, security and prosperity, and our armed forces are stronger and more capable at the level of organization, training and armament, based on steadfast support for them from the wise leadership, a popular rally around them represented by the people of the state racing to join them, and a strong infrastructure of military industries. And military colleges and academies that provide the highest levels of education, qualification and training.
Our armed forces represent the basic pillar of the nation’s security and its impregnable shield to stand up to anyone who dares to tamper with the security and capabilities of the state. They are also considered the impregnable fortress that protects the state’s strategic interests at home and abroad. Therefore, it is natural that they constitute the most important elements of the state’s comprehensive strength, and receive all support and care. On the part of our wise leadership, which spares no effort in making it a model for advanced global armies capable of carrying out the tasks entrusted to it with all efficiency and professionalism at home and abroad.
Our armed forces also have a major role in advancing the comprehensive development process, not only by creating the necessary climate for its implementation, but also by participating and contributing to it through qualified cadres and elements possessing knowledge and experience, which provides a significant qualitative addition to the country’s development plans in various fields and sectors, as our armed forces contribute. With the best of its men and cadres in assuming the responsibilities of implementing development and modernization plans that race against time in order to achieve strategic visions aimed at bringing the UAE to the top of the ranks of global competitiveness in all sustainable development indicators.
Our armed forces are considered a major part of the fabric of the UAE society. Rather, they are the backbone and pillar of this society, and they give great importance to communication and community participation, and sensing the pulse of society, in order to consolidate the unity, cohesion, and fusion of our people within the framework of this great institution that expresses our federal entity and represents an authentic symbol of it.
August 30, 2014 is also considered a historic day in the Emirates, as the first batch of male and female citizens joined the national and reserve service to perform the sacred duty, and set the sons of the nation, male and female, the most wonderful examples of love for the homeland and readiness to answer its call.
Khawla Bint Al Azwar School
With the continuous support of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women’s Union, President of the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme President of the Family Development Foundation, the Armed Forces have paid attention to the role of women in serving the nation, who have proven their worth by belonging to these forces, and that they are up to the responsibility in work, achievement, and dedication to Performing duty, assuming responsibility, preparing, and sacrificing in defense of the nation’s soil, achievements, and gains.
In this context, the establishment of the Khawla Bint Al-Azwar Military School came with the aim of preparing a national cadre of competent and experienced women to join the armed forces. The school has become a tributary of the armed forces, supplying it every year with female citizen recruits qualified to work in many specializations such as secretarial work, administrative affairs, computers and media. Military, which ultimately contributes to supporting women’s rights in society and their equality with men.
The UAE also believes that possessing power is the greatest guarantee for maintaining peace, and therefore it views the development, modernization and strengthening of its armed forces as a basic priority, and it will proceed on this path because the challenges and dangers surrounding the region require the highest levels of vigilance and preparedness.
