Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada Stefanchuk responded to Putin’s words about Zelensky
The current President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, according to the Constitution, remains the legal leader until the new president takes office. Speaker of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk stated this on Facebook (social network banned in Russia; owned by Meta Corporation, which is recognized as extremist in the Russian Federation and is banned).
Thus, he responded to the words of Russian leader Vladimir Putin about Zelensky’s illegitimacy. Stefanchuk advised to pay attention to Part 1 of Article 108 of the Constitution of Ukraine.
The presidential elections in Ukraine were scheduled to take place on March 31. The term of office of Vladimir Zelensky, elected head of state in 2019, expired on May 20, but presidential elections in the country were not announced. In turn, the Ukrainian leader himself stated that his five years were not over yet. “Because of the martial law, they continue,” he noted.
