Ismaily is preparing to celebrate its centenary, and is the first Egyptian and Arab club to win the African Champions League, when it won the title in 1970 at Cairo Stadium by defeating the Englander.
catastrophic situation
Al-Ismaili scored only 8 points in the Egyptian League after 13 rounds, losing 7 matches, drawing 5 and winning only once in its last appearance at the expense of Al-Ittihad of Alexandria.
Hamza Al-Jamal, one of the Ismaili legends, said in an interview with “Sky News Arabia” that the current situation of Ismaili is catastrophic in every sense of the word, and it must change immediately.
El-Gamal added: “I was a candidate to coach Ismaili this season, but I wish success for any technical staff that leads the team out of this spiral quickly, as the goal is the team’s interest.”
And the former Ismaili star continued: “Exploiting the upcoming international break is necessary in order to evaluate matters and search for the cause of the problem. Is the physical factor the reason, the technical, the financial crisis, or what?”
And El-Gamal added: “The victory over Al-Ittihad of Alexandria is very important, not only because it is the first win in the league this season, but it is morally beneficial for the players to regain confidence in themselves.”
Renewed confidence
Ismaili, through his boss Yahya El-Koumi, renewed his confidence in Hamad Ibrahim, the technical director, and gave him confidence to continue the mission of saving Ismaily from relegation.
The Egyptian coastal team needs to touch the 40-point barrier at the end of the season in order to ensure its survival in the league.
Hamza El-Gamal added: “In order for Ismaili to remain, he must achieve 9 more victories before the end of the league, and this needs hard and great work from everyone in the club.”
He concluded: “Ismaili enjoys the support of the administration, the masses and the media. The victories must continue in order to avoid the catastrophe of relegation.”
