In Moscow, a court sentenced the rector of MGRI to 5 years in prison for embezzling 25 million rubles
In Moscow, a court sentenced the rector of the Russian State Geological Prospecting University (MGRI), Vadim Kosyanov, to five years in a general regime colony for embezzling 25 million rubles from the budget. The Russian FSB Directorate for the capital reported this to Lenta.ru.
Kosyanov was found guilty under Article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (“Fraud”).
According to investigators, he, together with the Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Service and Personnel of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia Vera Samorodova, as well as with the complicity of employees subordinate to him, repeatedly stole money from the MGRI wage fund. As a result, he caused damage to the budget, which is estimated at more than 25 million rubles.
Kosyanov, together with his colleagues and Samorodova, concluded fictitious employment agreements and contracts between MGRI and persons ignorant of criminal activities, whose salaries were wrongfully calculated. The defendants stole this money.
The accomplices in the crime were also convicted. Moreover, they must pay the ministry more than 23 million rubles.
In 2023, it was reported that the former rector of MGRI was suspected of stealing university books worth 1.3 million rubles.
