The National Court has ordered the return of businessman Víctor de Aldama, president of Zamora CF and one of the main defendants in the Koldo case, six vehicles that were seized during the police operation: among them, two Ferraris, a Porsche and an Audi. According to an order issued this Thursday, to which EL PAÍS had access, the Second Section of the Criminal Chamber of the court has agreed with the person under investigation, who had claimed the cars upon understanding that there was no express judicial resolution that enabled in its day its interception.
Aldama is one of the key pieces of the investigation of the Koldo case, the alleged network concocted to obtain contracts for the supply of masks and medical supplies from the Public Administration in exchange for the payment of illegal commissions during the worst of the pandemic. According to the investigating judge Ismael Moreno, the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office and the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Civil Guard, the president of Zamora CF is at the top of the plot, which also involves Koldo García, who was an advisor to the former socialist minister. José Luis Ábalos.
The summary points out that Aldama, who knew Koldo García, “enjoyed a certain prevalence” in the Ábalos Ministry of Transportation and that, when the health crisis broke out, he learned that said department needed medical supplies. For this reason, he allegedly came into contact with fellow businessman Juan Carlos, who supposedly had the “necessary human and material means” to face a possible supply of masks and other products, as well as the “financing” that they would require. With these operations under suspicion, Judge Moreno calculates that Cueto obtained a profit of 9.6 million euros; and De Aldama, 5.5 million.
During the Civil Guard operation, the agents seized six vehicles from Aldama, among other assets: a black Ferrari Portifino, a red Ferrari F 12, a Range Rover, a Porsche Macan, a Volkswagen Golf R 32 and an Audi A-8 , owned by the president of Zamora CF or any of the companies linked to him. The businessman later demanded its return, but the investigating judge denied it. In line with the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office, the magistrate concluded that the cars were related to the events under investigation, and stressed that they were “acquired after the contracts” under suspicion.
However, the Criminal Court is now amending that decision. But this resolution represents only a small victory for Aldama, who this week saw how the Court confirmed the blocking and preventive seizure of his bank accounts and financial products. Furthermore, the court considers that there are indications that the president of Zamora CF may have committed crimes of belonging to a criminal organization, money laundering, bribery and influence peddling. And he would have “instrumentalized the blocked accounts for the commission of the crimes,” according to the Court’s ruling.
