Specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Russian Federation monitor the fire situation from space and from the air, using a space monitoring system and unmanned aircraft. This was reported on April 25 by the press service of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations.
It is noted that ministry employees successfully use a space monitoring system and unmanned aircraft to identify thermal hotspots. With their help, landscape fires have already been recorded in 74 regions.
“Since the beginning of the year, the supervisory authorities of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations have carried out more than 25 thousand on-site inspections. In almost half of the cases, dry grass burned. More than 3.5 thousand people have already been brought to administrative responsibility,” noted the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov.
The press service added that the drone is capable of transmitting a signal about smoke from a height of more than 50 m and detecting a thermal point within a 12-kilometer radius. 80% of landscape fires occur due to human fault, the Ministry of Emergency Situations emphasized.
As Sergei Voronov, director of the department of supervisory activities and preventive work of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, noted at the Izvestia press conference, the ministry uses the so-called “remote sensing of the earth.” Satellites detect thermal hotspots that often appear in steppes and forests. Space monitoring of the fire situation also helps the Ministry of Emergency Situations. Thus, information from satellites goes to specialists, and then, for example, to the heads of municipalities.
The day before, on April 24, Voronov spoke about the increase in the number of fires during the May holidays. According to him, according to statistics, during the May holidays in Russia there are two fires every 10 minutes.
On April 17, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said that in 2024, aviation patrols will continue in forest areas in the capital, the purpose of which is early detection and prompt extinguishing of forest fires.
