The Center for Opinion Studies of the Generalitat (CEO) has presented a report this Thursday that shows that the majority of citizens suspend the Government’s management with an average grade of 4.4. The assessment they make of the Central Government is not much better: those consulted rate it with a 4. This is the fifth consecutive time that the Catalans have suspended the Catalan Executive. The report has been prepared on a universe of 5,000 people with the particularity that it has been a self-administered survey: the CEO sent 20,000 letters randomly and they have received a response from 5,000: 4,300 responded online and the rest on paper.
The last report on public policies of 2022 concluded that those surveyed suspended the Government with a 4.8. Jordi Muñoz, director of the CEO, has stated that a comparison between the two studies cannot be established because this survey has been carried out with people over 16 years of age registered in Catalonia, regardless of their nationality and randomly. The one from a year ago, was done on people of legal age, of Spanish nationality and in a self-administered and random way. “They are different instruments,” argued Muñoz, who has pointed out that he is not affirming that the Government’s assessment has improved compared to the last barometer when it received a score of 3.5.
The survey, which will have a second part with sociopolitical content in two weeks, is divided into three blocks: the assessment of the Catalan Executive, that of Administration and public services and tax policy. ERC supporters are the only ones who approve of the Government’s management with a 5.4. Those of Junts rate them with a 4.8 and those of the PSC, with a 4.7. The situation is reversed when the management of the Government of Pedro Sánchez is addressed: socialist and common sympathizers with 5.8 and 5.2. Those of ERC, with a 3.9, value the Government worse than those of Ciudadanos, with a 3.2.
The study reflects the position of those surveyed on taxes. The majority (50%) are in favor of maintaining them to have the same public services and 32% are in favor of uploading them to improve them. Only 12% would lower them. More than half of the sympathizers of the CUP and the commoners would raise taxes. The report once again collects the impression that those consulted have about public transport if they have used it. Users rate long-distance trains 7.8, Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat 7.6 and Rodalies 5.8.
