Ukraine applied for EU membership
On February 28, it became known that Volodymyr Zelensky signed an application for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. Copies of the document were sent to President of the European Council Charles Michel, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and President of the European Parliament Robert Metsola.
Before that, on February 25, the Ukrainian leader took part in an emergency meeting of the Council of Europe. There, he asked to accept Ukraine into the EU under a special accelerated procedure. The leadership of the union has not yet made a final decision on this matter.
On February 22, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmitry Kuleba called on Europe to take the republic to itself. He asked for an immediate end to all hesitation and a promise of future EU membership.
Europe’s intentions

Prior to this, on February 25, Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas said that the European Union did not give an answer to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about the possibility of the country joining the organization.
