The Palestinian Red Crescent announced the collapse of the health system in the Gaza Strip, indicating that medical teams are unable to perform their duties, and calling for urgent international intervention to stop the attacks and protect the population. This came as medical sources in the Strip reported monitoring about one million cases of infectious diseases amid the absence of medical capabilities.
The spokesman for the Palestinian Red Crescent in the Gaza Strip pointed out in a statement yesterday the collapse of the health system in the Strip.
He pointed out that Israeli forces are targeting civilians and ambulance crews, and that medical teams are unable to perform their duties due to the continuing war.
He continued: “There are no mechanisms at the Civil Defense to recover the victims and injured.”
He stressed: “We need an urgent international solution to stop the attacks, protect the people of Gaza, and enable medical teams to carry out their health tasks to the fullest.”
In this context, medical sources reported yesterday that about one million cases of infectious diseases had been detected in the sector, which is inhabited by about 2.3 million people, warning of the repercussions in the absence of the necessary medical capabilities.
She warned that “the health situation is extremely catastrophic and cannot be described, and it is getting worse and more collapsing as a result of the failure to provide the necessary medical aid.”
The source continued: “155 health institutions were destroyed, 32 hospitals and 53 health centers were out of service, and 126 ambulances were targeted to put them out of service.”
He added: “The residents of northern Gaza are struggling with death as a result of a famine that has exceeded any global levels, as a result of the scarcity of drinking water and the lack of food, which has claimed the lives of dozens of children, women and the elderly so far.”
As a result of the war and Israeli restrictions, the population of the Gaza Strip, especially in the Gaza and northern governorates, is in the grips of famine, in light of a severe scarcity of food, water, medicine and fuel supplies, with the displacement of about two million of the Gaza Strip’s population, numbering about 2.3 million, which has been besieged by Israel for 17 years.
Efforts to deliver aid and relief materials to the displaced in Gaza face several obstacles, especially in light of the tragic circumstances and the severe shortage of all requirements.
The Information Commissioner in the Gaza Strip, Dr. Ahmed Hosni, revealed in a statement to Al-Ittihad the seriousness of the humanitarian situation, and called for stopping the escalation to avoid worsening the humanitarian crisis, pointing out that matters in the northern governorates and the city of Rafah have reached catastrophic levels that threaten the occurrence of famine as a result of the acute shortage of food. All requirements.
Dr. Ahmed Hosni pointed out that the entry of aid faces major challenges due to the complex procedures at the crossings, which makes the arriving quantities insufficient to meet the minimum needs of hundreds of thousands of displaced people.
He called for more tents to shelter thousands of families living in inhumane conditions, sleeping on the ground and looking up at the sky.
For his part, Professor of Political Science at the University of Palestine, Dr. Tayseer Abu Juma, described the humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip as “difficult,” pointing out that some of the aid arriving in Rafah is sold in the markets at very high prices, making it unavailable to the needy and the displaced.
Abu Jumaa said in a statement to Al-Ittihad that there are many and diverse needs of the population and the displaced, especially for children and women, which are often not met, in addition to the basic needs of food and medicine.
He pointed out the need to provide independent committees to distribute aid in a fair and equitable manner to all groups, to ensure that it reaches the needy and deserving people primarily, without it being sold in the markets at high prices, which makes it unavailable to the neediest groups.
