The vegetal coating will serve as thermal insulation for the building and will help to “purify the air”
One of the most emblematic buildings in Yecla will change part of its exterior image. The Autonomous Community will pay for part of the installation of a vertical garden in the Cazadores building, which will improve its envelope and will be a support for biodiversity, since it will promote the habitat of birds and insects, regional government sources reported. “The plant cladding on the northwest corner of this building is an application of the project called Solutions Based on Nature (SBN), which will serve as thermal and acoustic insulation for the enclosure,” they added.
According to the data provided by the Autonomous Executive in the presentation of the project, the action will have a surface area of 75 square meters and will generate oxygen for 75 people, as well as the elimination of 9,750 grams of suspended dust for a year. The general director of Territory and Architecture, Jaime Pérez Zulueta, explained that “this type of vertical garden allows the air to be purified and the ambient temperature to be reduced, since the plants can absorb 50% of the sunlight. They also serve to take advantage of rainwater and represent an aesthetic and landscape improvement. The project has obtained a regional subsidy of 27,300 euros, although the final investment for its implementation amounts to 45,600 euros.
Sustainable architecture
This action is part of the first call for regional aid for the implementation of SBN proposed by the Sustainable Architecture and Construction Strategy (EACS), promoted by the regional Executive, to create “healthier” municipalities that contribute to coping with change climate. The total budget of the aid line proposed by the Autonomous Community amounts to 400,000 euros and will mobilize an investment of 5.4 million euros. It is intended to finance projects for the sustainable management of rainwater, the mitigation of the heat island effect, the purity and quality of the air and the execution of actions in urban public spaces.
In addition to Yecla, the municipalities benefiting from these subsidies are Abanilla, Abarán, Águilas, Albudeite, Alcantarilla, Alguazas, Alhama, Bullas, Cartagena, Cehegín, Ceutí, Cieza, Fortuna, Fuente Álamo, Jumilla, Las Torres de Cotillas, Librilla, Lorquí , Molina, Ojós, Pliego, Puerto Lumbreras, San Javier, Santomera and Totana.
