The Barça in 2021 has lived one of the worst years in remembrance. Even so, the blaugranas, can cling to some questions to be optimistic. We are going to review the best and worst moments of the club.
Win streak in La Liga
Koeman’s Barça, still with Messi in the team, was able last season to get a good run of results in La Liga, and managed to reach the end of the championship depending on itself.
Hiring of Xavi Hernández
The signing of Xavi for the bench was something that all Barça fans had been asking for for a long time. The former culé player was finally hired, and now there are many expectations and enthusiasm in his project.
Return of Ansu Fati to the pitch
After three knee surgeries, there were doubts whether the young player would be able to play football again. Luckily, at the beginning of this season Ansu Fati has been able to play and show that he is ready to lead this Barça.
Copa del Rey champions
The club’s only title in 2021 was the Copa del Rey. The Blaugranas beat Athletic Club in the final and were able to celebrate something in a year in which there have been few celebrations.
Gavi and Nico break into the team
The arrival of homegrown players to the first team is the best news for fans of the Catalans who know that they cannot make big signings, but they see that they can trust the people of the house.
Defeat against PSG in the Champions League round of 16
The Blaugrana team lost and were eliminated for the first time in 13 years in the knockout stages of the Champions League. The culés deserved more, but when they fell in that round, they showed that they are no longer one of the most feared teams in Europe.
Defeat against Granada in La Liga
FC Barcelona had the opportunity to take the lead in La Liga in May and face the last stretch depending on themselves. However, they fell crashingly against Granada, and could not recover from this debacle.
Elimination of the Champions this season
If you had to go back 13 years to see Barça fall in the second round, to see the Blaugrana team out of the final phase of the Champions League, you have to go 21 years ago. The defeat against Benfica, and the subsequent draw, made the Catalans remain third in their group.
Messi’s march
Without a doubt, the hardest moment for Barça is the departure of one of the best players in history from the club. Without Messi in the team, FC Barcelona ends a cycle and ceases to be that feared team for having the Argentine star in its ranks.
Losses against Real Madrid in El Clásico
Barça have lost the last two games against their eternal rival, which shows that they are going through a bad time. Furthermore, we cannot consider Real Madrid as one of the great clubs in Europe either.
