Political experts and diplomats expected that the 33rd Arab Summit in Manama would come out with exceptional decisions, in line with the emergency circumstances and the current situation in the Arab region, the region and the world.
The former Egyptian Foreign Minister, Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, stressed the importance of the regular and permanent meeting of leaders of Arab countries, especially in light of a turbulent regional situation facing many challenges, most notably the war in Gaza, the continuation of ongoing Israeli violations, and the dangerous humanitarian situation, especially with the lack of entry into the country. Adequate aid for the residents of the Strip.
Fahmy said, in a statement to Al-Ittihad, that it is expected that the main goal of the summit will be to deal with stopping the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, bring in humanitarian aid urgently, discuss ways of reconstruction, and emphasize the two-state solution.
He added, “The Arab world is ready to reach an agreement to end the Arab-Israeli conflict in a comprehensive manner without remaining silent about Israel’s violations, and adhering to the necessity of stopping them,” noting that the Riyadh summit had a strong statement in this context, and we hope that it will be emphasized, especially to prevent Israel’s continued violations. Its military operations.
Fahmy stated that there are other important issues as well, such as the tense and dangerous conditions in several Arab countries, especially Yemen, Sudan and Libya, in addition to the political crisis in Lebanon and the worsening refugee issue.
International support
For his part, former Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister, Ambassador Hussein Haridi, stressed the need for the Bahrain summit to come out with exceptional and decisive decisions, given the current circumstances, and for the language of the final statement to be strong and decisive, and for it to approve strict measures to confront Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip.
The former Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister told Al-Ittihad: It is important to build on the current international support and the draft resolution granting Palestine full membership in the United Nations by a vote of the majority of members of the General Assembly, which is an important political victory at this dangerous stage, considering the global recognition that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state It is the solution to the current situation and the basis that must be used to make decisions that unite Palestinian and Arab ranks and pressure Israel to stop the war and violations against civilians.
Regional risks
In the same context, Professor of Political Science, Dr. Tariq Fahmy, noted the importance of holding the Arab Summit, as it sends important messages that the Arab countries are united and reflects a full awareness of the current dangerous conditions not only in the Gaza Strip, but in the entire region.
He told Al-Ittihad that holding the current session of the summit in Bahrain has important implications, and holding the summit in a Gulf country confirms the importance of the role of the GCC countries in regional and Arab issues and their great weight in the political equation in the Middle East.
He said: “All the current challenges and current circumstances require Arab solidarity to deal with them correctly and appropriately, and with compatible viewpoints, so that the Arab efforts bear fruit with regard to efforts to stop the war on Gaza, which requires more pressure, because the conditions in the Gaza Strip have reached an unprecedented level of deterioration.” ».
Stop the attacks
Former Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister, Ambassador Gamal Bayoumi, believes that the most important thing that can come out of the summit is to stop Israeli attacks on civilians in the Gaza Strip after it has reached a catastrophic state.
Bayoumi explained to Al-Ittihad that the situation is witnessing further deterioration in various parts of the region, such as threats to navigation in the Red Sea, the conflict in Sudan, the humanitarian situation in Yemen, the political vacuum in Lebanon, and the tense situation in Syria. Therefore, it is necessary to discuss these issues at the summit.
