There are doubts about international full-back Luke Shaw’s participation with the England national team in the European Football Cup hosted by Germany next June due to injury, according to what his Dutch coach at Manchester United, Eric Ten Hag, said.
Shaw, 28, played only 15 matches in all competitions this season due to injury, and his last appearance was against Luton Town on February 18.
The Red Devils defender was expected to return at the beginning of May after a muscle injury, but it is now likely that he will miss the match against Manchester City in the FA Cup final on the 25th of this month.
England coach Gareth Southgate announces the list of players called up for the European Cup after the final hosted by Wembley Stadium, which means that Shaw faces a race against time to recover and obtain a place on the list.
Ten Hag revealed that Shaw suffered a setback in his rehabilitation process after recovering from the injury, which delayed his return to the field.
“As for the England national team, I cannot say (whether it will be ready), I am not the one who determines,” he said before facing Brighton on Sunday in the final 38th round of the league.
He added, “But as for the cup final, we are working on the issue, and I think Harry Maguire has a chance to be available.”
Maguire missed the last three matches due to a muscle injury as well.
The Dutchman continued, “Luke’s condition is more complicated, at this moment. Let’s say that his chances of playing are less, but there is still a slight chance.”
The Three Lions team will play two matches with Bosnia and Herzegovina on June 3, then Ireland on June 7, before traveling to Germany, where they begin their campaign against Serbia on the 16th of the same month, in the third group, which also includes Slovenia and Denmark.
