On April's day, a new accessory appeared at the end of Turku's landmark Posanka. However, it has already been torn down.
Iconic The Posankka statue is a familiar sight to many, but there has been something strange about it in recent days.
Namely, a new style.
On April's day, a tee cap appeared on the monster's head. A cap with a tassel is an accessory for teekars, i.e. university students in the field of technology.
Lakin made and dressed by the students of Machina ry, the mechanical engineering guild of the University of Turku.
One of them was Lauri Koivusalo. In addition to him, there were six people in the group.
“The idea was not mine. Posankka has been varnished sometime before, in the style of ten years ago. We thought that now would be a good time to continue that tradition.”
However, the cap is no longer in place: Koivusalo says that someone has come to tear it down.
“It's all scattered now,” he says.
According to his understanding, the cap was taken from the end of Posanka on the night between Wednesday and Thursday.
“We don't know at all, by whom.”
Artist by Alvar Gullichsen the sculpture he designed is a cross between a marzipan pig and a rubber duck. Posankka, located along Helsinginkatu, is known as a party place for students – a creature has managed to crawl inside it from the stern.
Even on Wednesday, Posanka's tee cap remained firmly away from the creature despite the gusts of wind, thanks to the fastening string that goes under the brim. Inside the well-fitting cap was a fishnet.
HS told about Posanka's party expenses on May Day 2022. The Turku Student Village Foundation (TYS) has licensed Posanka twice on May Day, in 2011 and 2012, but the cap was taken off the head of the creature both times.
The footage obtained from the foundation showed the inconsolable fate of the cap: the custom-made cap stolen from Posanka's head was lying on the ground, rusted.
So history repeats itself.
Teaker's cap there are rules for using it.
Turku's Teekkar Commission on the website it is precisely defined who are entitled to wear the teekari cap. According to the Teekkarikomis, the cap can be granted on May Day eve of the first year of study at the earliest.
“The Turku tee cap can be worn by people who have completed the freshman pass and our organization's event Eldprowet, which is a test for freshmen shortly before May Day,” says the chief commissioner Reetta Lindberg From the board of the Teekkarikomis.
Lindberg studies mechanical engineering. He only found out about Posanka's law when it appeared on the creature's head.
“Every spring we organize an ice competition in Turku, and this was clearly part of this ice competition.”
From Lindberg, putting a cap on Posanka was a fun thing and it brought good visibility to the tea craft culture.
“It's really nice that the cap made it to the show. Posankka is such a visible element in Turku,” he says.
In Turku, the Teekkarkomisi always legalizes the statue of Paavo Nurme on May Day Eve.
A cap can be used freely only during a certain time, according to the Teekkarkomissi. It starts on May Day at 18:00 and ends on September 30 at 23:59.
Outside of this time, legal usage rights must be requested separately in writing. According to Lindberg, requests usually come in weekly. In spring, the right to use the cap is not so easily granted, because the cap is wanted to be consecrated on May Day.
No permission had been applied for Posanka's law. Does the Teekkarkomissi still allow Posanka's use of the law, Reetta Lindberg?
“Yes, we do allow this.”
