The future of Mick Schumacher with the Haas is increasingly in the balance: to demonstrate the doubts on the possible confirmation of the German for 2023 there are not only the words of Gene Haas on the damage caused by the accidents of the number 47, but also the not too hidden names on the possible replacements of the 23 year old. Recently, in fact, the team principal Günther Steiner he quoted openly Daniel Ricciardoeven if the Australian’s arrival would not seem feasible due to the will of the current McLaren driver to take a sabbatical and, above all, to Steiner’s intention of not necessarily opening a negotiation with the former Red Bull.
In recent weeks, however, there was also discussion on a possible return to Formula 1 of Antonio Giovinazzi, even if on the eve of the United States GP (before which Haas will call the press for a press release) there is another candidacy that it is getting stronger and stronger. As confirmed once again by Steiner in an interview with RTLthe assumptions are focusing even if another return like that of Nico Hülkenberg: “Yup, I talked to him – admitted the manager from Bolzano – I’ve known Nico for a long time, better than I know Daniel. We are talking, but nothing has been done yet ”.
In any case, Steiner did not rule out Schumacher’s stay for 2023, despite the criticisms addressed to him in the last GPs, especially in Japan: “I’m honest: it’s still 50-50 – declared a NTV – we will not make a decision between Austin and Mexico simply because there is no time. Next time would be after Mexico because we would have more time to deal with it. As an athlete, you are always under pressure. He knows he has to give his best. We are talking about it openly. Pressure is not a bad thing, because with it you also get an opportunity. And I think he can handle it well. We came back from Japan on the same plane and he was in a good mood. He grew up in a racing family and knows what it is. It’s part of his job ”.
