O2 Sustentabilidade and other companies work to help reduce the tons of carbon produced by the sector
The race to mitigate carbon emissions in agribusiness has opened up opportunities for companies in the sector. It was in the gap between technology and climate challenges that O2 Sustainability developed in the market.
02 Sustainability is led by the Brazilian company Taynaah Reis and has an office in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. To the Power360the businesswoman explained that the projects range from reforestation initiatives to the implementation of regenerative and low-carbon agricultural practices.
It is a platform to measure, verify and certify whether producers’ agricultural practices comply with socio-environmental standards. Uses technology blockchain (data recording that allows sharing of information in blocks) and data integration.
A O2 It serves everyone from small farmers, who seek to validate their sustainable practices and access the carbon credit market, to large agricultural corporations interested in complying with international regulations on carbon emissions.
Currently, the startup has customers in Brazil and the United Arab Emirates. “Our credit calculator also offers a tool for banks and fintechs that want to integrate sustainability criteria into their financial operations”, he said. He explained that from this it is possible to quantify the impact of carbon on investments, loans and credit portfolios. From a supermarket purchase to gasoline.

- average price of services: from R$50,000 to R$500 thousand, depending on the service and contract period;

Carbon Inventory
4less began its work in 2020. Responsible for inventorying the carbon emissions of large companies, the company outlines reduction strategies and monitors the mitigation process for 1 year. This is what the founder of the business explains, Mirella Nogueira.
The main actions used by the company include changes in operational practices, investments in clean technologies and renewable energy. Mirella explains that the definition of measures depends on the company’s final goal. Some choose to reduce emissions, while others want to neutralize them.
- 1st step: identify the source of emission;
- 2nd step: plan reduction strategies;
- 3rd step: follow the strategies for 1 year;
- 4th step: redo the mapping.
The largest emission in the sector is in livestock farming. In the agricultural sector, the use of fertilizers is a massive source of emissions, which Mirella describes as having the greatest impact and concern. “It is a carbon intensive process. His entire chain, until he arrives at the farm gate, he already comes with a heavy stock. From the moment we can remove or reduce it, we gain a lot. We stopped emitting a significant amount”, it says.
Registered with Simples Nacional, 4less Carbon had revenues of around R$271 thousand in 2023. Services cost around R$20,000 depending on the size of the organization and the scope of the contract. It is located in Brasília and currently has 10 clients.
CARBON EMISSION
Agribusiness is the second most responsible for the production of greenhouse gases in Brazil (26.6%), second only to deforestation (48.2%). In agriculture, an average of 617.2 million tons of carbon is produced annually. The data are from SEEG (System for estimating emissions and removals of greenhouse gases for 2022. SEEG is a platform for Climate Observatory —a network of Brazilian environmental philanthropic entities formed with the aim of discussing the problem of global warming.
Innovation in agribusiness
As it is a sector with a large representation in GDP (Gross Domestic Product), agribusiness has been increasingly required to adapt production to a sustainable format. Agrotechs, startups that operate in agribusiness, have helped reduce carbon.
According to District, in 2023, 588 agro startups were registered in Brazil. The number is divided between biotechnologies, automation and precision agriculture.
