The Heritage Square area in the heart of Sharjah has been transformed into various folk art paintings, showcasing an aspect of the heritage and cultures of peoples, and reflecting the aesthetics of cultural blending on the territory of the United Arab Emirates in Sharjah, at the beginning of the first day of the activities of the 21st session of Sharjah Heritage Days, which will be held from 22 This February until next March 3, with the participation of 13 Arab and foreign countries.
Following the opening of the new session, the audience of Al-Ayyam watched a group of local and international bands showcasing their folk arts to inherited melodies and words, and performing them in their popular dress in harmony with the geographical environments and ancient crafts, until they became part of their identity and character known among the peoples, which was admired. Attendees and sparked their interest and interaction.
Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Musallam, President of the Sharjah Heritage Institute and Chairman of the Supreme Committee for Sharjah Heritage Days, said: “The new session of the days bears a distinctive color in terms of the nature of the participation and the events and activities included in the program, which together constitute windows overlooking the global popular cultural heritage, and highlight the unlimited support for His Excellency. His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and a living translation of His Highness’s visions on the importance of civilizational blending between the heritage and cultures of the world, and strengthening Sharjah’s leadership based on its influential heritage and cultural depth, and its continuous and renewed giving.”
The activities of the first day of the cultural program related to Arab heritage witnessed a segment on Arabic coffee, a symbol of generosity, presented by Coffee Ambassador Saif Al-Dahmani, and included the display of pictures and films related to the etiquette of hospitality related to coffee in the Emirates.
On a related level, the activities of the academic program “Signatures and Launches” included introducing professional qualifications at the fifth level in the qualification for collecting, recording and preserving intangible cultural heritage, the qualification for administrative work in cultural and heritage institutions, the qualification for museum guidance, the qualification for manuscript restoration and maintenance, and the specialized program in media. Tourism, and the specialized program in cultural media, delivered by: Dr. Basma Kashmoula, Dr. Saber Marzouki, Maha Al-Douri, and Wafa Daghestani.
As part of the “Story House” activities, organized by the International School of Storytelling, 5 evening activities were held, during which visitors learned about the basics of reading and the art of public speaking. As part of the Al-Kharareef exhibition with a new vision, “Works of Art,” the UAE Book Council for Young People presented a workshop, “We make wooden frames for Korean folk art,” with the participation of a creative South Korean painter. In the Stories and Music segment, the Rubu’ Qarn Music Foundation presented live musical performances of its creativity. Within the “Every Day” segment, Dr. presented a story. Ahmed Saad Al-Din Stories from the Emirati heritage, with creative workshops.
Visitors to the Sharjah Heritage Days activities were introduced to various other segments, which included heritage, artistic, entertainment and awareness workshops and games, in addition to the heritage crafts segment, while special performances by a group of Gulf folk arts attracted audiences of different nationalities and age groups, especially: Al-Ayyala, Al-Nuban and Al-Rawah, which were presented by 4 teams.
In the same context, the Emirates Society for the Art of Arabic Calligraphy and Islamic Ornamentation, which is participating for the first time in the Sharjah Heritage Days, added various sections, which included introducing the art of Arabic calligraphy and its types, displaying artistic paintings that reflect the beauty of Arabic calligraphy, and introducing the calligraphy tools used by famous calligraphers. As part of the heritage crafts section, the Sharjah Maritime Museum held a heritage workshop entitled Engraving on Cups, ending the activities of the first day of days with some joy, knowledge and entertainment that gave everyone an unforgettable memory.
