From November 1, Serbia will import Iranian oil instead of Russian. This was announced on September 12 by the Minister of Mining and Energy of the Republic Zorana Mihajlovic.
“From November 1, we will no longer import Russian oil, but we will primarily have oil from Kirkuk, we will have our own oil, its volume is 20%, and the rest will be Iranian oil or some other oil,” she cites. word agency “Tanyug”.
Earlier, on August 29, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke about the search for an alternative to Russian energy sources. According to him, the country is ready to buy oil from Iraq, gas from Venezuela, and coal from Indonesia. Vučić noted that the country’s finances are strong enough to address the shortage of supplies expected in the coming months.
On August 21, Vučić announced that Serbia would lose Russian oil due to Western sanctions. Deliveries will end on November 1st.
In June, the Serbian President announced that in order to avoid problems, the country would have to look for alternative sources of oil imports from Russia against the backdrop of EU anti-Russian sanctions on the supply of Russian oil by tankers. At the same time, Vučić assured that the country’s government had already agreed with one of the British companies on the supply of 200,000 tons of diesel and other resources.
Western countries began to impose new sanctions in response to Russia’s conduct of a special operation to protect the Donbass, the beginning of which was announced on February 24. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, the implementation of which is necessary to ensure the security of Russia. The decision was made against the background of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military.
