Reuters: Russians are leaving Turkey en masse due to problems with residence permits and finances
Russians who moved to Turkey after the start of the special military operation (SVO) began to leave en masse for other countries, reports Reuters.
In May, the number of Russians with a residence permit (RP) in Turkey decreased from 154 thousand to 96 thousand compared to the end of 2022.
According to the agency, the main reasons for Russian citizens moving from Turkey to another country, for example to Serbia or Montenegro, were problems with obtaining a residence permit, high inflation, and difficulties with banking services due to sanctions.
Earlier it became known about the rise in real estate prices in Turkey, which provoked the departure of many Russians from the country. In general, the number of foreigners living in Antalya decreased by 40 thousand people at the end of last year. Among them were many Russian citizens who, against the backdrop of rising housing prices, began to move to Serbia and the UAE. In addition, at the beginning of 2023, the country tightened checks on applications from foreigners for a tourist residence permit.
