As a result of the reduction in the quota of diplomatic personnel by 51 people, which the Romanian authorities requested, half of the diplomatic workers of the Russian Federation will leave Bucharest, Russian Ambassador to Romania Valery Kuzmin said in an interview with Izvestia.
“As a result of a sharp reduction in the quota of the diplomatic and administrative and technical staff of the embassy, every second Russian diplomat and two out of every three technical employees will leave Bucharest. We will be forced to suspend, without the prospect of resuming in the foreseeable future, the work of the Russian Center for Science, Culture, the school at the embassy, and also to reduce a number of administrative and technical units to the limit, ”Kuzmin said.
As he stressed, the embassy is convinced that the “functional core of the diplomatic mission” will be preserved and consular services for Russians, maintaining contacts with compatriots and cultural and humanitarian countries will continue, albeit “in a significantly reduced volume.”
In early June, Romania ordered Moscow to reduce the staff of its diplomatic mission on the territory of the republic by 51 people. The number of Russian diplomatic missions in Romania and Romanian in Russia will be equalized.
The Russian Foreign Ministry promised to “give an appropriate response” to the actions of the Romanian authorities.
