Diplomat Polyansky called Japan's statements about the nuclear threat “shame and disgrace”
First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN Dmitry Polyansky on social networks X called Japan's statements about the nuclear threat a “shame and disgrace.”
The diplomat drew attention to the speech of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in the US Congress. The politician expressed concern about the risks of “another disaster” associated with the use of nuclear weapons.
At the same time, the head of government did not mention the fact that the United States dropped atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. He assured Washington of friendship and alliance and emphasized that Russia “continues to threaten the use of nuclear weapons.” With these remarks, Kishida drew thunderous applause from American lawmakers.
“What a shame and disgrace,” Polyansky was indignant, commenting on the prime minister’s speech.
Earlier, Japan's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, Mitsuko Shino, at a meeting of the organization's Security Council on Ukraine, recalled the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. She pointed out Tokyo's concerns about the nuclear threat allegedly emanating from Russia, but did not specify that the United States dropped an atomic bomb on Japanese cities.
