His Highness Sheikh Saud bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, stressed that creating a better future for humanity is closely related to the extent of investment in advanced sciences, and the extent to which the results of scientific research and studies are used to serve the goals of sustainable development in various fields. This came during His Highness honoring Sir Anthony Cheetham, yesterday, by handing him the “Sheikh Saud International Prize for Materials Science”, in recognition of his great contributions in this field, as part of the activities of the second day of the “International Workshop for Advanced Materials”, in its thirteenth session, which is organized by ” Ras Al Khaimah Research Center for Advanced Materials” at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in the Emirate. His Highness the Ruler of Ras Al Khaimah witnessed a specialized scientific lecture entitled “How are new materials discovered?”, delivered by Sir Anthony Cheatham, Research Professor at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA, Distinguished Visiting Professor at the University of Singapore, and one of the most prominent chemists specializing in the field of « Materials Science” in the world, President of the “Ras Al Khaimah Research Center for Advanced Materials” since its establishment in 2007.
His Highness stressed the importance of this workshop, which aims to enhance the status of Ras Al Khaimah and the UAE as an incubator for scientists and scientific research that would contribute to finding sustainable solutions to the most prominent challenges facing the world.
His Highness praised the role of this scientific event, which has been organized in Ras Al Khaimah for years, in attracting a group of the most prominent scientists and specialists in “materials science” on one platform to discuss the most important ideas and information to improve the quality of human life, and to harness this advanced field of science to create a bright and prosperous tomorrow for generations. His Highness called on the youth of the country and the people of the emirate to benefit from this workshop and the research presented in it, stressing his keen interest in continuing to pay attention to the development of “materials science”, which will greatly affect the lives of future generations.
The “International Workshop for Advanced Materials 2022”, which will be held in Ras Al Khaimah from February 20 to 22, aims to discuss the latest developments in the field of “advanced materials”, which are characterized by great scientific benefits that will improve the growth and prosperity of various vital sectors. In its session this year, the workshop will witness the participation of 22 scientists and researchers specialized in various fields of advanced materials, including two Nobel Prize winners.
