Asaps celebrates the World Day of Remembrance of Road Traffic Victims. The association that has long been fighting to ask for greater protection for road users, especially the weakest such as pedestrians and cyclists, makes its voice heard, to ensure that “this day dedicated to the memory of road victims you don’t pass by in the usual guilty silence“.
Tragic data
And it does so first and foremost by highlighting the data dramatic events that concern safety on Italian roads from the beginning of the year to today, the same ones that were illustrated in the hearing at the Chamber’s Transport Commission on 14 November: 379 deceased pedestrians and 175 cyclists as of 12 November, 72 fatal incidents of piracy to September 30th, 1,133 victims in accidents on weekends alone as of October 31st and 48 children dead as of November 12th.
Massacre of children
This last figure is what worries Asaps the most, considering the evident worsening compared to the past: just think that 39 children were killed on the roads in all of 2022, and 29 in 2021. “A data terrible for those who have been involved in road safety for decades”explains the association, defining it “a real defeat“.
Day of road victims
“Yes, we realize that talking about road victims in a period caught between two terrible wars may perhaps seem a little out of place. But is not so – commented Giordano Biserni, Asaps number one – On the streets of the great round ball that is the earth, one every year undeclared war causes 1 million 300 thousand victims in road crashes. Mainly (it may seem strange) in Africa, China, South America. But there are also 21,000 in the EU and 127,000 in the entire European region, of which over 3,000 also in Italy”.
