Over half of Finns would lower the criminal age limit from the current 15, it appears News Finn from the opinion poll.
According to the survey, 55 percent would lower the criminal age limit, 31 percent would not lower it, and 14 percent could not take a position on the matter.
In terms of party affiliation, supporters of the main government parties have the most positive attitude to the lowering of the age limit. About four-fifths of the basic Finns support lowering the age limit, two-thirds of the coalition members.
Among the age groups, the youngest adult age groups have the most negative attitude to the idea of a possible lowering of the age limit.
Turku assistant professor of criminal law at the university Tatu Hyttinen told Uutissuomalai that he thinks there is great support for lowering the age of responsibility. According to him, the result could have been influenced by the fact that the survey was conducted at a time when the school shooting in Vantaa was still being discussed a lot.
A thousand Finns responded to the survey carried out by Tietoykkönen between 9th and 17th. April. The margin of error for the overall result is 3.1 percentage points in each direction.
