The dog is humanity’s best friend, no one can deny that, which is why a recent investigation carried out by experts has drawn attention in which it was revealed a new “superpower” of loins.
Beyond being used for different types of activities for the benefit of humanity, dogs are one of the pets preferred by people, since there is no more faithful animal than a dog.
In case you didn’t know, since Around 1,400 years ago, dogs lived alongside humans.time through which they have carried out different types of activities, such as holding security positions, providing support to people with disabilities or certain diseases, as well as herding cattle and being hunters.
One of the most outstanding characteristics of these domestic animals, whose average life is 15 yearsis the sharpness of their sense of smell and hearing, which are highly developed.
Under this framework, researchers from the University of Lund and the Eötvös Loránd University carried out a discovery that left them speechless, as they discovered that the loins are capable of detecting heat with smell.
In this sense, the experts concluded that the dogs they are able to detect the weak thermal radiation of their preyIt is because of this that some canines with sensory problems such as smell, vision or hearing defects are able to hunt.
To reach this conclusion, the scientists carried out experiments that consisted of two phases: on the one hand, in the first phase they trained 3 dogs to choose between two objects of different temperatures, one hot at 31°C, and the other at room temperature, and put them 1.6 meters apart. The dogs could not smell or see the difference between the two objects. Then, they were tested in experiments called double-blind, and all three were able to identify and differentiate between the hot objects.
On the other hand, in the second phase of the tests, brain scans of 13 dogs of different breeds as radiation-emitting objects approached them. This is how it was detected that the left somatosensory cortex responded to stimuli and there was no response to items with a neutral temperature.
Given this, the researchers pointed out that this ability of the dogs is inherited from the gray wolf, their ancestor, which had the ability to sniff out its prey with warm bodies when hunting.
