Japan is one of the G7 countries with an unfavorable position in terms of gender equality. The World Economic Forum’s global index (2021) places the country in 120th place out of 156. At a time when artificial intelligence is gaining ground in the industry, some women are seeking further professional training that will allow them to opt for well-paid jobs.
Reducing the differences is a pending issue in the Japanese country. Women face many obstacles to achieve professional success. Kayako Tsuchiya is an entrepreneur and founder of Seekers Base. With years of experience in the technology sector, she has carved out a place for herself in this male-run world.
Tsuchiya studied at the University of California and a job opportunity in the area of video games was his gateway to technology. He currently leads projects related to education.
“In Japan, if you are a man, you are valued and you will get better job positions. There are few women with opportunities linked to their professional skills.”
His early training in Japan was different from that of the men in the company. The women learned how to serve tea correctly and about hospitality, while the men gained knowledge of the company.
In a country led by men, education could be the key to boosting equality. “Artificial intelligence will replace many part-time jobs that women usually have in Japan and when that happens, we have to give them proper training in entrepreneurship, leadership and technology skills so that they can have a well-paying job,” Tsuchiya adds.
The Government’s 2030 agenda seeks to reduce the gap in a country that combines cultural tradition and technological development.
