Police|Creepy thoughts crept into the Espoo mother’s mind when the children told them about the couple who approached them with rabbits. The police are aware of what happened.
From Espoo Diana Al-Samarra came across a strange situation in the shopping center Issa Omena on Friday.
The children at the playground told him that they had met a man and a woman a moment earlier who had brought pet rabbits with them. According to the children, the couple had told them that they could take the rabbits with them, and that they would bring more the next day.
Al-Samarra says that the man had given his phone number to one child, around 10 years old.
“The man had reportedly said that you can call him if you want a rabbit.”
Al-Samarra deleted the number from the child’s phone and tried to call it himself. The call was not answered.
According to Al-Samarra, the couple had also abandoned two rabbits in the mall. The guards found them and apparently delivered them to the animal protection association, he says. It is not clear if any of the children accepted the rabbits.
Al-Samarra reported the matter to the police.
“As an adult and as a mother, I was left with a strange feeling about the situation. Very strange and suspicious.”
His first thought was that for some reason the couple had too many rabbits and didn’t know what to do with them. After that, the thought crept into his mind that maybe the couple was trying to win the children’s trust in this way in order to use it later in a wrong, even creepy way.
Al-Samarra says that her husband considered that one option is also that the man and the woman were simply stupid and thoughtless.
Al-Samarra wrote about it on Facebook to warn other parents about it. On Sunday, the Espoo puskaradio group had another discussion about a man and a woman in their 20s who had been seen walking in a shopping center with rabbits.
Western Uusimaa the police department says that the police are aware of Friday’s events. They also visited the place.
“There was a couple who had brought pet rabbits to the children’s playground and distributed them to the children. Then they left the spot,” a senior constable Toni Suvanto tells.
No criminal report has been filed on the matter. The police had also not heard that the same couple had moved around in Iso Omena on Sunday as well.
“The matter is certainly under the police’s supervision, but someone should notify the shopping center if someone is distributing rabbits again.”
Suvanto does not speculate on the possible motives behind the couple’s behavior.
