The number of Russians employed in the economy (excluding military personnel) will increase by 1.4 million over three years, to 73.3 million people. This follows from the forecast of the Ministry of Labor, which Izvestia reviewed. At the end of 2023, there were 71.9 million people.
The structural restructuring of the economy and the development of import substitution have increased the need for personnel, the All-Russian Research Institute of Labor of the Ministry of Labor explained to Izvestia.
An annual increase in the workforce of several percent is not enough to compensate for the shortage in the mass personnel segment – this is the scarcest category of the labor market, said Lusine Abgaryan, operating director of the Ventra HR holding. To solve the problem of personnel shortages, we need to actively increase the attractiveness of blue-collar jobs among the population, she is sure.
At the beginning of 2024, unemployment in Russia is at a record low level of 2.8%. According to the Central Bank, by the beginning of April, the share of enterprises facing a labor shortage reached 70% (in July 2023, this figure was 56%).
