Serbian Novak Djokovic defeated Australian Nick Kyrgios (4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6), winning his seventh Wimbledon title on Sunday. The favorite won his 21st Grand Slam and was only one title behind Spaniard Rafael Nadal, who holds the all-time men’s record.
Although he was initially overshadowed in a first set by Kyrgios, the 35-year-old Serb, a favorite after Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal from the competition, managed to extend an unbeaten streak at Wimbledon to 28 matches with the new victory.
Djokovic thus collects not only his seventh Wimbledon crown, but also extends his Grand Slam trophies to 21. In this way he is one below those obtained by Nadal, who has 22 at the moment, and one above Roger Federer.
Playing in his first Grand Slam final, the 27-year-old Kyrgios played brilliant tennis in a 31-minute first set in which Djokovic was unable to get close to his serve.
