Decision represents a change in the acronym’s thinking; president says that distribution of funds will have “objective and clear” criteria
O New Party approved on Thursday (22.Feb.2024) the use of the Electoral Fund in this year's municipal elections. The decision represents a change in the party's thinking, which refused to use public resources in campaigns.
“Unlike other parties, we have set objective and clear criteria for using the Fund, one of which will be meritocracy. This takes away the discretion of the national directory to allocate resources wherever it sees fit.”, stated the president of Novo, Eduardo Ribeiro, to the newspaper Folha de S.Paulo.
According to the publication, the distribution of the amount across the States will be proportional to the number of cities, the size of the tickets and the number of voters.
Candidates and directories with more private donations will have a kind of bonus. There will be an extra portion for those who are already elected and for party leaders who obtain the largest number of financial contributions.
Novo should have access to R$32 million of the R$4.9 billion released to the Electoral Fund in 2024. This year, the group of political parties that identify themselves as “conservative” or “right-wing” will have more than twice the value of the Electoral Fund compared to those who present themselves as “leftist”.
