This Friday, The National Police of Peru (PNP) arrested Nicanor Boluarte at the request of Eficcop, which is investigating him for an alleged case of influence peddling.

The prosecution accuses him of commanding a corruption network that appointed prefects and sub-prefects in exchange for “economic gifts,” as specified by the judiciary in a statement. The officials serve as representatives of the government in the regions of the country and are appointed directly by the president and the Minister of the Interior.
From their positions they recruited “affiliates” to register a new political party, Citizens for Peru, which Nicanor, 64, would lead.
The organization “would have created its criminal program immediately after Boluarte” took office as president on December 7, the judiciary added.
The police are investigating Boluarte for an alleged case of influence peddling.

Along with Boluarte, the president’s lawyer, Mateo Castañeda, was arrested. and six more people in different operations carried out in Lima, Cajamarca, Junín and San Martín.
As part of these actions, “26 properties” were raided, the prosecutor’s office said.

Castañeda represents the Peruvian president in the investigation she faces for some luxury watches that she did not declare in her list of assets.

He added in a statement that The resolution “would be related” to the arrest warrant for Nicanor Boluarte, as well as the lawyer Castañedaand six other people linked to a case of influence peddling.
Subsequently, the acting attorney general of Peru, Juan Carlos Villena, demanded the “immediate” replacement of the police team and confirmed that his office was “evaluating the measures” that it is responsible for taking, in accordance with its “constitutional powers.”
“Citizens should have no doubt that the prosecutors of the Public Ministry will defend legality in all instances and specialties,” Villena stressed.
