The Belgian Motorcycle Academy, which is part of Dorna’s’Road to MotoGP‘ program is now well known. In 2020, the BMA founded the Junior Black Knights, an initiative to guide young racing talent to the highest echelons of motorsport competition. And that’s going well, although the BMA could use a boost every now and then.
A Supermoto team has now also been added to the group of young motorsport talent. The young elect are Valentin Durand (2010), Tom Rolin (2009) and Evan Gourmet (2006). This fresh can of Junior Black Knights will compete in the French and Belgian Supermoto Championships, with a dozen races scheduled in 2022.
For the Belgian Motorcycle Academy, the expansion of the Junior Black Knights team to Supermoto, and the transition from two to five talented pilots, is a logical evolution. Freddy Tacheny, president of the non-profit association Belgian Motorcycle Academy, explains: “The training program for members of the Belgian Motorcycle Academy integrates all branches of motorsport: speed, dirt track, cross, supermoto and trial. A good mastery of all these disciplines is necessary to be able to keep up with the competition.”
“During the training days, several trainees, especially those coming from the cross country, already showed a lot of interest and a special talent for Supermoto. The Belgian Motorcycle Academy has therefore decided to support a number of pilots in logistics and equipment.”
In the Speed category, Noa Cuypers and Loris Dekkers are the new Knights; they will compete in the Northern Talent Cup to hopefully follow in the footsteps of Lorenz Luciano. After two years of training at the BMA, he continued to grow and this year will compete in the FIM Junior GP and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, in other words the waiting room for Moto3.
