The Ministry of Foreign Affairs justified the decision to close both diplomatic legations by alleging that “employee safety has the highest priority.”
The physical closure of both buildings will not paralyze diplomatic activity either in the embassy in Tehran or in the consulate in Erbil, but it will will affect people who had a scheduled appointmentand which were mostly to apply for a travel visa to the Netherlands.
