British musician and composer John Miles has died. The singer died yesterday after a short illness at the age of 72 in his hometown of Newcastle, reports the organization of the Belgian Night of the Proms, where he was an annual guest.
Miles is best known for his hit song music, which became a number 1 hit in 1976. In 1982 the song again became a hit in the Netherlands. The song became the hymn of Night of the Proms, which had its first edition in Antwerp in 1985. Since then, he has attended almost every year.
music was Miles’ only hit in the Netherlands. After his own career faltered, he worked for many other artists. He was Tina Turner’s regular guitarist for a while and he went on tour with Joe Cocker and Stevie Wonder, among others.
Miles was married to his wife Eileen for almost fifty years and leaves behind two children and grandchildren.
